Our Mission
Preparing New York’s communities of faith for every disaster.
NYDIS was founded after September 11, 2001 with a simple conviction: that the moral and organizational power of New York City’s thousands of congregations, mosques, temples, and synagogues could be directed toward disaster preparedness and relief.
Today we serve as the connective tissue between faith communities and the City’s emergency management infrastructure, ensuring that when disaster strikes — whatever its form — an organized, compassionate response is already in place.
Learn Our Story“No community recovers from disaster alone. Faith traditions have always gathered at the center of crisis — NYDIS gives that instinct structure.”
