NYDISNew York Disaster Interfaith Services

Born of crisis.
Built for resilience.

New York Disaster Interfaith Services was established in 2001 to harness the collective capacity of faith communities across the five boroughs for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Our guiding principles

01

Interfaith Solidarity

We believe that religious diversity is a source of strength. Our network spans every major faith tradition represented in New York City, united by a shared commitment to human dignity.

02

Community-Centered

Effective disaster response is built from the neighborhood up. Congregations are trusted institutions in their communities — we amplify what is already there.

03

Equity & Inclusion

Disasters deepen existing inequalities. NYDIS prioritizes multilingual outreach, accessible programming, and the most vulnerable populations in every initiative.

04

Prepared & Coordinated

Relief given without coordination is often relief wasted. We invest in relationships, systems, and training so that the City's response is organized and effective.
